During the winter of 1916-1917, 47th Division were holding the line in various sectors of the Ypres salient in Belgium. This was always a hotly contested part of the Western Front which was now made worse by an extremely cold and wet winter. On 7th February, 1917, 8th London (Post Office Rifles) of 140 Brigade, moved into the line in the Hill 60 sector in the southern part of the salient and it was here on 11th February that Harry Pinnan was killed, probably by shell fire. |
